We'll be worshiping with New Life Mission Church of Fullerton this coming Sunday. That's right, we're going all the way down there to visit them. "Why?" you may ask. To answer that question, let me share what we did for Mother's Day this past weekend.
On Saturday, my side of the family got together in K-town to have dinner together. My sister's family came up all the way from Murrieta. Our family went down all the way from Santa Clarita (in two cars, mind you, because I was in Glendale for a meeting). We had dinner together at a restaurant. Nothing fancy. How fancy can you get in a Chinese restaurant, with seven kids running around? Shortly after we finished eating, we got back into our cars and drove back to our respective homes...all the way back to Murrieta and Santa Clarita. On my way back (alone in my car to contemplate on life), I was thinking that most of us were spending more time on the road than we did at the restaurant. We probably spent more money on gas than food too. So why? Why spend so much time and money to get together? Not very practical or pragmatic. So why? Because we're family.
And that's my answer to "why" we're going down to Fullerton. We're going to visit family. Think of New Life Fullerton as distant cousins you've never met. You finally get to meet them! Maybe you'll like them. Maybe not. Regardless, we're family. In case you didn't know, we're part of New Life family. "New Life," as in New Life Mission Church of Glendale (that's our name by the way), is our family name, a name we share with 6 other sister churches. New Life Fullerton is one of our sister churches. New Life Fullerton is also our mother church. Though she didn't give birth to our church, she will be nurturing us, helping us grow and mature as a body of Christ. We are blessed to have more mature church supporting us, mentoring us, and praying for us. So we're going to visit family, to affirm our relationship, to get to know better, just to spend some time together. We don't get to do this often. So let's appreciate the opportunity we have to go and introduce ourselves, get to know them, and enjoy their hospitality. Don't be reluctant and drag your feet. You'll find them welcoming and nice. I think you'll enjoy the visit.
